2.0 out of 5 stars Light-weight coverage for a tough exam, 30 Dec 2000
I used this book, the Sybex Network-Design, Exam Cram for Security & Network-Admin & Network-Design & MS Whitepapers to prepare for this exam. After passing the exam with 776 I was very relieved as the 4 case studies were hard, sometimes ambiguous & had many flowchart-buildit type questions. Note that the use of connectors & building blocks is different for each question. So read the Instructions for this type of question 1st & draw it out on paper to understand what kind of design MS want you to do !!

Of all the materials the Exam Cram Security Design was ok, though lacking coverage in RRAS/VPN/RADIUS & the Exam Cram Network design was good. The Sybex books missed the mark in giving a light-weight coverage of the above areas. All books exhaustively covered PKI & issues therein like CA's, IPSec, EFS, Kerberos & Schannel. All book Q&A's were pathetically simple & did no justice whatsoever to what bit you in the exam !

These MS electives are very hard - make no mistake that a lot of adequate preparation is needed. As they are new I get the impression that only few books cover them well. Probably the safest way to study would be to stick to the MS Whitepapers & Technet articles that are freely available from the MS web site. The best stress-free way of studying would be to wait until late next year - then lots of information will be posted about these new exams.

Do not underestimate the Power of Case-Studiez !

2.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Poor, 9 Jul 2002
By Mr. Stuart G. Taylor (Jersey, Channel Islands) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a surprisingly poor offering from the usually excellent Sybex team. It really lacks enough substance to get you anywhere near the required level for the exam. The end of chapter questions and short scenarios are far too easy to answer and lead you to beleive that you are ready for the exam when you are not. Stay away from this book and buy the official MS Training Kit instead along with the Readiness Review Guide. I have used Sybex books for all of my previous 8 exams (including 70-240 which I passed) and have found them generally very good. This is the exception and a 2 star rating is being generous!
