5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, 27 Sep 2001
I have been using their Access books since 2.0. They are certainly not perfect, and not the way for a starter to get started, but of the nearly dozen Access books I have bought or referred to over the years, this series comes by far the closest to providing the kind of documentation you need to develop serious applications in MS Access.

They could add a chapter on how to develop help files & documentation, and it would be really valuable if they could provide more information on how to use controls in Reports to manipulate subtotals, etc.

Still head & shoulders above the rest, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive reference manuals on Access, 9 May 2001
By A Customer
I never thought a better reference book on Access would ever be written after the Access 97 Developer's Handbook. Well, I was wrong.

As a professional developer who has been using Access since version 2, this is the best reference available apart from the help files themselves. And it is better organised than meets the eye!

A serious developer should not let their shelf stand empty of this set. It is certainly not for the Access beginner, though, covering many technical aspects of Access that will be daunting to users just starting out with it. What many people don't realise is that MS-Access is an immensely complex and intriguing piece of software, with practically limitless possibilities. These books are a real help in leveraging these possibilities.

Nuff said, go and buy the damn thing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Indespensible for serious development, 6 Jan 2001
Definitely not a book for users without either existing understanding of Access or VBA, but indispensible for those undertaking serious development. I found it particularly useful on using Access to link to SQL Server and to disentangle ADO and DAO. Exposition was clear for the audience addressed... I suspect that the reviewer who had problems with dveloper's handbook will find himself returning to these volumes once he is more comfortable with the product.

2.0 out of 5 stars There must be an easier way to learn Access than this!
I only have vol.1 -- at 1,600+ pages I figured that was enough to be going on with. There's a mountain to digest here -- for which you need a pretty strong digestive system! Read more
