5.0 out of 5 stars Best thing on the market, 1 Dec 2002
By techie_guy (Leeds, UK) - See all my reviews
Ive been in IT for a while but this is really the first time i've turned my attention to Linux. Tried a few books on the market and they all excel at leaving you entirely stuck when it counts. This book is entirely different, explains how to approach linux and got a novice in the field like me up to speed. I am now entirely confident & comfortable with the Linux operating system and help others learn. If you are a novice / intermediate with linux, this is the book you want.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bloated and relatively little substance, 31 May 2000
By A Customer
I know it's a big subject, but this book is very uneven. Generally things are covered in too shallow detail to be of any use, or far too much to be at all relevant. As a long-time Microsoft user I was looking for a useful introduction to Linux. This book claims on the cover to be THE Linux resource for the non-Unix user, but it fails. The reams of progam listings, hardware options and configuration options (which could all have been put on the CD to save trees) have led me to believe the book is aimed at people who can't tell filling from substance. Sorry Arman and Sybex - I really hated it. It's neither an easy introduction nor a reference book. At least the CD contains Redhat 6, which installed for me faultlessly, but I think I would have been better off getting the boxed Redhat distribution and leafing through the manuals.
