Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Word 97 Macro & VBA Handbook is a mammoth book that describes a variety of tools for automating Word, such as styles, templates, macros and Visual Basic programming. The book is appropriate for Office 97 users who are new to programming and for programmers who want to learn how to write Word Visual Basic programs. For novice users, Hart-Davis begins with straightforward descriptions of how to format characters, paragraphs, and documents and builds on these descriptions by discussing style sheets and templates. For programmers, the book describes the Word object model, the programming protocol that allows Visual Basic programs to control Word. -- Amazon.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good introduction to VBA for Word 97 for beginners., 5 Jan 2001
By M. W. Tymieniecki (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought the book having only basic VB knowledge, and was trying to do something reasonably complex in Word. I found the book very good in explaining the basics. It was a light on areas such as the Word Object Model, for which in truth there are better books. It covers registry manipulation and links to other MS applications fairly superficially. In short a good beginners book, I occasionally use the book for reference. I would not however recommend this book to the experienced VBA programmer or as a pure source of reference. The high score results primarily from my expectation level and immediate requirement.

4.0 out of 5 stars One-stop reference with excellent examples, 8 May 2002
By A Customer
i bought this book years ago and used it with success in my job doing general support and basic development in Word97. It's like a hardcopy of the helpfiles in VBA, only very neatly knitted together, far better and more thoroughly explained examples and very easy to find your way around.
An excellent choice, if you're a jack-of-all-trades-master-of none kind of guy like me, that need to find how-to answers fast.
Finally, the best testimony of all: Someone have misplaced our copy at work, and now I'm ordering another

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough depth, 2 Jun 1999
By A Customer
This is a rather disappointing reference to me. I am a VB programmer and bought this book hoping this gives some details about the Word Object Model. Unfortunately this only go as far as the online help pages, which are very supervisual as well. This book failed to give the 'secrets' of Word tricks, and a lot of them I had to learn them the hard way.

I also read a couple other references but they weren't too good either. Maybe experienced Office developers don't tend to write to well usually.
