3.0 out of 5 stars Book without tapes 1 star, with tapes perhaps anything, 7 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This is a tonal language. The book assumes that you have a set of tapes available..

The book is written as a guide to those who know about languages - so if terms such as 'diacritical' trip of the tongue, and you can already speak a tonal language - you may well succeed without the tapes.

My copy is currently doing nothing - there are some interesting ways to insult a speaker - but if you cannot distinguish the four ways to pronounce 'papa' you will not know what you have just done/bought/...
