I originally purchased this book to have a reference to the many different types of herbs and spices - photos, preparation, flavours, mixing and perhaps some recipes. I quickly found, however, that the book also lent itself to interesting and enjoyable reading from cover to cover. This then improved the ability to use it as a very informative reference guide. I will now go on to purchase some of Ian Hemphills' other books and DVD "Spices". But for now I can recommend this one.
