Hyped up and with each story introduced by some great writers, I had high hopes for this. I was drawn in by a mis-leading cover which promotes lots of big names, but it is not until you look at the details that you discover that the actual stories are by new writers, most of which you will never have heard of.
In order to carry this off, the stories would have had to be very good, but sadly they weren't, they do range from the 'not bad' to the 'okay' but there was not one outstanding story that would have had me seeking more work from the author concerned.
Given the cost and the cover hype, this felt like a bit of an unsatisfying rip-off. It will be in the bargain bins within a few months so don't invest any money on it now.

I'll admit to not reading the last two stories in this because they'd likely only be as bad as what had gone before. I bought the book after believing the hype (and being a huge fan of Lee Child). Billed as "getting your blood pumping and holding you breathless on the razor's edge of suspense". Hardly. "pulse-pounding anthology" it isn't. At the very best they are mediocre. If this is the standard of the best up and coming crime writers I'll have a go myself. Save your money and buy something decent. Or you might find my copy in a charity shop.

This collection of stories was a fascinating introduction to writers old and new in the genre. Many were new to me, but I will be searching for their books if they are as good as these short stories. Chilling, with a sting in the tail, or thought provoking, there is something here for everyone and nobody should be disappointed.
