Amazon.co.uk Review
Back in ancient times, the barefoot doctor was a wandering medicine man who dispensed wisdom and healing to the communities of China and south east Asia. This modern Barefoot Doctor (BD), operating rather closer to home out of West Hampstead, has become something of a cult with his subversively sassy manuals that apply the teachings of the Tao to the great issues of modern personal life. First he did power, in
Handbook for the Urban Warrior; then he did money, in
Handbook for Heroes; and now, completing his trilogy, he turns to--what else?--sex.
A skim through the contents will soon show you that this is not a book about marriage or monogamy. But if it's sex you're after, BD does not shirk on the specifics. Divided into three sections--which could roughly be summarised "Before", "During" and "After"--he looks closely at the mechanics of seduction and desire, gets down and dirty with a bagful of erotic tips and techniques, and even looks at some of the less exciting issues and problems that can arise from sex. (Did you know, for instance, that what BD likes to call "Sudden Surprise Ejaculation Syndrome" is usually a result of "kidney yin deficiency", and can be treated with acupuncture and herbs?).
Always, BD's perspective is clear, uninhibited and, of course, refreshingly different, informed as it is by the knowledge of the Ancients. This is good, dirty, informative fun. --Dan Fielder
