I agree wholeheartedly with Ian, an earlier reviewer. This is far better than an average JCVD movie. I don't think he is as bad an actor as the critics make out, and in this film he gives a very creditable performance with sublety and depth. The storyline is intriguing and offers a plausible reason for a Frenchman to be in New York - unlike other JCVD films where he's called Eddie or Darren and we have to pretend he hasn't got an accent! If only his management could find more scripts like this - then he could flex his acting muscles for a change.

[Mervyn Catley, 25 April 2012 This is a good Movie film.]
Now he's no Bruce Willis or Brad Pitt, there are no major multi-million budgets for these movies. But i've gotta say, this one came out a treat!.

Yep, Van Damme certainly does stick to a familiar genre and some almost carbon-copied story lines. But that shouldn't affect anyone's opinions of this movie. If you feel the need to be satisfied by another side of Van Damme, watch JCVD.

Ringo Lam directed some fantastic action scene's, the opening scene was brilliant.
There are parts of the movie that make you think of a GTA game and Eastern Promises (with all the Russian Mafia involvement).

It doesn't hang about or drag, I enjoyed it right to the end! I would recommend it any action movie fan.

I watched this in bed and I think it's a really good action film, one of VAN DAMME's best.

It's action all the way - explosions, gun battles and a good climax fight.

The story is: Alan Moreau's investigation into the death of his identical twin brother leads leads him from the South of France to the mean streets of New York City and into the arms of his brother's beautiful girlfriend.

Persued by ruthless Russian mobsters and renegade FBI agents, the duo must race against time to solve his brother's murder and expose an international conspiracy.

There's only one problem: all traces of his brother's life are rapidly disappearing, and the one person who knew him best may not be yelling all she knows.

I had high expectations about this film and I was not disappointed, it had all the hallmarks of a classic VAN DAMME films.

Buy this if u are looking for an all out action film or you are a VAN DAMME fan you will not be disappointed.

If you are a fan of Van Damme or the hot babe Natasha Henstridge then this belongs in your collection. And let me assure you that this movie is not like other Van Damme direct-to-video releases, it is soild action movie which also happens to be my favourite Van Damme flick(mainly because Henstridge was tooooooo hot). Blu-ray is bare-bonus with decent video and sound. But the movie itself is worth a purchase. Recommended.

I am a big Van Damme fan but am not afraid to admit that his movies can be pretty hit and miss at times! This one however, along with Hard Target and Knock Off is one of his best! The action in this film is filmed in such a way that it has a gritty almost realistic 'feel' to it! Almost as if you are watching not from your armchair but from the sidelines! Directed by Hong Kong action director Ringo Lam, who also went on to direct Van Damme in the above-average 'Replicant', the film is more of a high-octane chase thriller than a big, dumb action movie with Van Damme doing some of his best acting to date! Some of the highlights include the opening chase sequence to the awesome fight sequence in the sauna to the explosive finale!

Ringo Lam doesn't put a foot wrong in this action flick which keeps up a real adrenaline rush in its superbly choreographed, hi-energy action sequences. The story concerns Van Damme's twin brother, killed in Nice in the first scene, whom he never knew he had. The brother, Mikhail, had been at loggerheads with the Russian mafia when he tried to leave it. The surviving brother, Alain, takes on his identity. At the same time, he is now the one being targeted by some corrupt FBI officers who risk being exposed as working for the mafia should a list of names kept in a Nice safety deposit box fall into the hands of the US government ... All this is secondary, though, to the action, and Jean-Claude van Damme is brilliant in these scenes, and like a true hero, emerges virtually unscathed. Whether in the streets of Nice, a sauna in New York, or spilling out onto the subway of the same, he seems strained to breaking point, but comes through. The camera work matches him - these sequences are superbly edited, often using realistic settings: the markets and narrow streets are used to ratchet up the knife-edge tension even more, usually with many innocent bystanders coming to within an inch of their lives, and fruit and vegetable stalls sent flying. It is exciting like a comic book brought to life. The effects don't stop there, though, as the cast is excellent, including French stars Jean-Hugues Anglade and Stephane Audran, Natasha Henstridge adding glamour and love interest, and Van Damme himself really convincing in the part as a man of great reserves of strength - and decency. The visual panache extends to the New York streets, the lighting at night, the interior of a nightclub with red and yellow balloons, an amiable guy in a rough neighbourhood who has both a waxed floral tablecloth and a dartboard.Read more ›
