5.0 out of 5 stars Another Xanth novel from Piers Anthony, 8 Dec 2009
By Mr. GB Couttie "gbcx" (Huddersfield, W. Yorkshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A spider finds himself lifted by a Narrative Hook and transported to the magical pun-filled Land Of Xanth... So begins the 33rd novel of the series. Your attitude to this novel will depend hugely on your feelings about the preceding 32 novels... Xanth has come a long way from the simple cheekiness of "A Spell For Chameleon" (the first) and is now rather more "adult" though far from the explicitness of "Pornucopia". We are still in Xanth and the Adult Conspiracy still holds. While there is a great deal of flashing panties, well-filled bras and Stork-summoning (Jumper's quest-mates are a half-dozen women and he can magically transform into a man when required for the quest) the land is very familiar, as is the quality of writing.

Piers Anthony is a fantastic storyteller; the pages of his novels seem to turn by magic and Jumper Cable is no exception. If you like Piers Anthony in general and Xanth in particular, you should buy this title; it is another enjoyable race towards the Author's Notes which are a joy in themselves.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jumper Cable (A Xanth Novel), 15 Nov 2009
By Mr. Mj Beacham "Fantasy Freak" (Bracknell, Berkshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
No. 33 in the Xanth series sees a welcome return to a more adult theme.

The great great grandson of Jumper spider (who appreared in Castle Roogna Xanth 3)Castle Roogna (Xanth Novels)is transported to real Xanth by means of a Narrative Hook, and begins an adventure involving 7 lovely females and the need to repair the cable that connected Xanth to Mundania.

Not anywhere as good as the first 3 books in the series, but far and above some of the others which relied almost exclusively on puns to make up the story lines.
