"Slan" was always crying out for a sequel and, having the blessing of the van Vogt estate, this should have been at worst, a reasonable attempt. Instead it is an almost total failure. The author seems to have ignored much of the original to the extent that few of the characters are even vaguely like the originals in "Slan". Granny seems to have had a brain transplant while the rest, including Jommy, have turned stupid. In the original, Jommy built on his father's achievements. In this, he does not understand them, thus leaving all sorts of questions unanswered. I am bemused - didn't the author read "Slan" before he started writing this travesty? Please don't buy it. If you do, you will end up as disappointed as I am.
