5.0 out of 5 stars Great fast paced debut, 8 Sep 2008
A hard hitting, witty and deeply imaginative debut novel which has expanded upon a previously published novella which is included and serves as the first section of this story. Whilst it has some familiar themes, it's set in a "very different" world 200 or so years from now with sealed dome cities, pervasive homeland security monitoring down to the genetic level, trillionaire power players, clone workers and neo anarchic tribal lifestyles set against the backdrop of improving nano/macro environmental conditions and a possible interstellar mission.

We follow one man's story from heady lust and good fortune through injustice, utter despair, tragedy and on towards redemption and a degree of hope not just for his family but for a wider and more diverse humanity than here in 2008.

I get the feeling this is the start of a wider cycle of novels set in the same `verse, there is too much material here for one book to contain.

Hard to praise highly enough but if I have one criticism the dialog and pace are a little breathless in places and could leave the reader behind, particularly in the last 10% of the book.
