Watt-Evans always write about subtle heroes - but Sword (or Breaker)- the main character is one of the better ones. The story is also better constructed from his usual excellent Ethshar stories, much greater depth and much darker. The story is a traditional one, a group of heroes gathered to remove a rogue wizard. But with the usual unexpected Watt-Evans twist. Highly recommended, much more enjoyable than the Obsidian series.

I have always been a fan of this genre, and this one was very good. True, it is a bit predictable, but the action and fluidity of writing more than makes up for that. Couldn't put it down and can't wait for number two.

If you like books like this one, might I suggest another I've recently come across. The Unsuspecting Mage by Brian S. Pratt. It's another fantasy adventure sure to please. I highly recommend it

I really like this author.
I own most of his other books and I really enjoyed them.
However, this book isn't up to his usual standards. Its slow, predictable and not entertaining. It would be such a shame if this was your introduction to his work as it is likely to put you off reading any of his other work which would be sad as he is usually very entertaining.
I couldn't in good faith recommend this book. It's just too boring.
