5.0 out of 5 stars Just couldn't wait and it was worth it!!, 29 Mar 2006
By omnireader "Linda" (New Jersey USA) - See all my reviews
We American readers have to wait a loooong time for Juliet Marillier's books to be published in the US. After reading The Dark Mirror last fall and an excerpt of The Blade of Fortriu on her website, I knew I'd have to get it shipped from Amazon.uk. Well worth it!
The Blade of Fortriu picks up 6 years after the end of The Dark Mirror. Bridei is king, and he and Tuala have a small son, Derelei. The kingdom has been peaceful, but Bridei has not forgotten his dreams of reclaiming territories taken by the Gaels and reuniting the kingdom under the old faith. To that end he sends Ana, the royal hostage to make a marriage of alliance with a powerful Caitt chieftan, Alpin of Briar Wood. Ana is escorted on the journey by Faolan, Bridei's bodyguard/spy/assassin/reluctant friend, a man thoroughly dispised by Ana. After a disastrous journey, Ana and Faolan reach Briar Wood, a place of secrets, violence and a captive kept in the most bleak of circumstances.
Once again, Juliet Marillier has constructed a completely believable world, peopled by characters the reader cares about. At it's heart, this is Faolan's story and we learn why presents himself as an emotionless assassin and spy. Life changes completely for Faolan at Briar Wood. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a great story with lots of adventure and emotional impact. Now I'll have to order The Well of Shades (last in the trilogy) from Oz, I guess!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing, 4 April 2006
I waited for this book for so long and could not wait to get my hands on it. I was not dissapointed, written in her usual style, this book captivated me from page one! I could not put this book down so much so that my thesis is now late as a result of my reading late into the night when I should have been writitng it! I would reccomend this story to anyone who loves a good plot a twist a battle a love story adn to have their breath taken away completely. The characters really come alive and jump out of the page at you.
Anyone who reads this book will not be dissapointed it is a truly magical read and you will cry when it's over and realise that the next in the series is a year away!
I dare you to read it and not like it......

5.0 out of 5 stars Looooved it!!!, 21 April 2006
By M. Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've read all Marillie's book and I enjoyed most of her books. But this one is absolutely the best. I just couldn't stop reading (luckly I had a few days of work) It's completely unexpected and wonderfull, even though I hated and loved the chosen end. And now I have to wait ONE year!!!
