I thought this was the novel version of 1984 - but it's not. It's a summary of each chapter and a list of characters - very useful if you are going to be sitting a literature exam - (If that's what you want it for, it looks fine), but if you wanted, as I did, to read the novel, you'll be disappointed.

Like many authors have their own unique style of writing, Orwell was capable of creating a new genre of story-telling.

This is, however, no ordinary story... Orwell wrote this book nearly half a century before the title date. Do not be fooled into thinking that the year refers to a past, and is told as history. In fact, it was written as a revolutionary text on the future of the world.

Having had the book for just over 8 years, I have read it at least a dozen times. Such is the intensity of the book, you will not simply feel compelled to read the book, but the depth of characters will MAKE you read on.

Having the book as an E-Book, rather than my tatty copy, has made reading it more legible and (if dictionary is active) will help considerably in the understanding of Orwell's language. As when I first read the novel at 12 years old, it is hard to picture such an abstract landscape.

The plot is diverse from the beginning, and very rarely will you find such intriguing thought patterns. An accomplished reader will revel in the deepness of the language, whilst newer readers will most probably be showcked at the morbid occurances (if anyone has read Orwell before, you'll know what I mean).

The original book has, I feel, been neglected in modern teaching. As the novel has been the movement for such modern topics as Big Brother and Room 101 (popular TV shows). I warn you however, such trivialities are not apparent in the story, so be prepared for a dark and intense read... There's nothing like it...

An excellent book which was brought to life by Orwell's effective techniques such as symbolism and personification. It makes us all a little paranoid that maybe, just maybe BIG BROTHER is watching our every move and listening to each and every word that passes through our lips. I highly recommend that if you read just one book in your lifetime it should be 1984.
