  • Prep your computer for Linux
  • Boot and stop Linux
  • Connect to the Internet, e–mail, surf the Web, and access and use cool Internet tools

1.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm I think not, 22 April 2006
By D. B. Ryan - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have never reviewed a book before in my life. So it may be a measure of the strength of feeling about this one that I take the time to review it.

However this book is a mass of confusion. It attempts to cover Linux by covering a number of its distribution types. But what you end of with is little coverage of anything. The structure of the book is ill thought out and the cross refrencing is at best inadequate and at worst induces deep deep frustration. Often you are told to go to such and such chapter for the next bit of advice only to find the advice so well hidden that Sherlock Holmes would be left scratching his head, or you eventually arrive to find that there is another reference and so it goes on.

If you ever get close to installation you find that the installation instructions are, surprise surprise, confusing and inadequate.

The instructions on the different desktops are o.k and give an overview.

It is obvious that the author is very skilled and knowledgable in the linux field. Unforetunately they have attempted to cover too much. More is less.
