4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Read!, 24 Feb 2005
I'm a new convert to Linux, having recently ditched Windows and installed SuSE 9.2 Pro on all our four machines.
I have to say that there is a real shortage of serious books written for the new Linux user. Masses of online help and forums, everyone is very helpful. But you still need a real book to read and refer to.
If you've got SuSe 9x then I can recommend this book wholeheartedly. Written in a clear easy to follow way it provides a guide to Linux in general as well as specifics about installing, configuring and maintaining SuSE. You get a full version of SuSE 9.1 Pro on the DVD-ROM, so buy the book and you get a superb operating system for the price!
I'm glad I made the move to Linux and this book has helped make that change a lot smoother.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not best for novices, newer editions available., 29 Jul 2005
By M. S. Lee (Essex) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Hard going for a novice/newbie, assumes an understanding of terminology. Now superceeded by version 10.1 but the basics of linux remain the same, such as navigating around the file system and the command line.
It would be better to buy the latest edition of this book as it comes with an up to date SuSE distribution DVD, but this is very well written and packed full of information and guidance.
