1.0 out of 5 stars Advanced Basic, 1 Feb 2007
This is not a book I would recommend for anyone wishing to install and configure Vista. The information is little more, and in some respects less than, what can readily be found in newsgroups and indeed on MS sites. I feel that too much time has been devoted to IE7, media player, tablet features, even fonts. In fact a whole chapter of almost fifty pages! Forget this book if you want insights into the workings of Vista or to understand security features. Consider the fact that the chapter on security covers sixteen pages - including enhancements to IE7 - and as I've mentioned, fifty on fonts. I was going to give this a two star rating, but on perusal one will suffice - I did not have the option for zero. Vista secrets - in your dreams!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not outstanding, 2 Mar 2007

I was first struck by disappointing images: I never expected colour at this price, but the mono screenshots are disappointingly low resolution (almost fuzzy) and a hinderance for those with ageing eyesight.

The contents brings together thousands of FAQs that can be found elsewhere in online help, blogs, newsgroups, etc., into a single publication. It is a little unbalanced in its emphasis.

Overall, I would recommend it for value and useful but only at its heavily discounted price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok For The 'Ordinary' User - Not For 'Techy Types', 18 Sep 2007
By K. Gruender (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

A big let down to me, as I was looking for a book that had a lot more technical detail than this one has.

It promises a lot more than it delivers and most things in here can be found on the Official Windows Vista Magazine Forum, plus MS sites themselves.

All in all a big disapointment - I have given my copy to my friends 15 year old son!

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing
i have to agree with the previous three reviews, the book has nothing that can not easily be found on the internet and nothing of interest for an advanced user at all.
