3.0 out of 5 stars Hacking??, 28 Nov 2004
This book does have some good content, and i therefore think that the 3 stars are deserved, but the word "Hacking" in the book title is a little over the top (Probably put in to help sales) and should possibly be replaced with "Tinkering"(Not so appealing now). Many of the "Hacks" require installation of the supplied software to carry out the tasks, which ultimately removes the " I did that" element, and in the end you're just tinkering with Windows using somebody elses software. Many of the sections just tell you what ticks to add/remove from certain boxes and anybody not afraid of messing up a PC now and again will have already found most of the things mentioned.
However, if you have time on your hands and want to rename the recycle bin or change the boot screen etc, this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hacking Windows XP, 27 Aug 2004
This has got to be the best computer book i have ever read. If you want to know more about how your computer system goes about its daily work, this is the book for you. Unlike most books the author take the time to explain, the why as well as the how.Just by reading a few pages i was able to make my computer very secure, and what's more understand what i did and why i did it. this book can be read cover to cover or used as a reference book. The book is written so the beginner can understand, but there is plenty for the advanced user. This book will never be far from my side.
