By Macavity (London) - See all my reviews
This book consists of a line-by-line source code listing for a peer2peer application, with explanations on the code. So far, so good. Except that the application itself is extremely basic, relies on a central server, and has few of the features that prospective P2P developers will want explained.

Both Java and C# versions of the code are presented, which is rather pointless as the languages are almost identical. Some windows-specific features are in the C# version (system tray icons, Windows Media streaming) but not the Java version. It would have been much better to stick with one language and use the space for more advanced features.

The source code presented is of questionable quality, with many errors both algorithmic and presentational. The typesetting is also shoddy, with many layout and spelling errors.

Avoid this book unless you are a complete novice to both programming and P2P technologies. And probably even then.
