Product Description
Fifteen hours. With this book, that′s all it takes for a Web designer to master the fundamentals of Dynamic HTML –– and start embellishing Web pages with animations, pop–up menus, rollovers, and more. The book presumes some knowledge of HTML, but no knowledge of the other chief components of DHTML, Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript, which both receive detailed coverage. The CD–ROM has source code, Web development tools, and more.

1.0 out of 5 stars A meandering waste of time and money, 20 Sep 2002
By Leyton Jay (Crawley, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have done a Computer Science Degree and found this book to be meandering and filled with trivial information. It's progress is erratic and confusing. It tries to teach the hard stuff using over-complicated descriptions (and without analogys) before teaching any of the basics. It teaches Javascript BEFORE listing the basic differences between DHTML and regular HTML. It gives small pieces of code as examples rather than entire DHTML documents. I had to pull code from the CD (which is also full of rubbish and outdated demos) inorder to understand any of what was going on. I'm an experienced programmer and it took me 60 hours to get through this book and I still had to skip over the most complex parts. It is absolutely terrible, more thought has been put into the trivial jokes than the substance or order.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Book, 26 Oct 2003
By Gareth Williams (South Glam United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I have bought and read a large number of computer books over the years and found that this was very well written and presented. It guides the reader through the subject in a gentle but not condisending manner.
I would advisde anyone who has mastered the basics of HTML and who wants to progress further to get hold of this book and use it as their starting point

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price, 6 Nov 2002
This book is excellent for those who it is intended for i.e. someone who already knows HTML and Javascript. Thats why session 2 and 3 are just reviews of those to bring you up to speed. It cover CSS, the DOM and applies Javascript. Ignore bad reviews of those who don't read the preface. It is unfortunate that the CD was rushed and publishing overlapped the issue of new products but the associated web site has the code. My only real criticism is that code is in HTML 4.01 transitional rather than XHTML so is in capitals etc. but then not many authors have yet updated to that. Compared to this the Dreamweaver MX Visual Quick start by Peachpit would get a minus rating.
