5.0 out of 5 stars Best JavaScript book available!, 22 Jun 2002
By A Customer
When I bought this book, I'd already tried a number of other titles of the "Teach Yourself" and "Crash Course" variety. I was new to JavaScript and to programming in general, and only had experience with HTML. Being completely new to JavaScript and to variables, functions, methods etc, I found most books just skimmed over the subjects and provided one with just enough to write a few scripts, but did not explain in enough detail exactly WHY or HOW things work. This book is completely different.

Whether you are new to JavaScript and proramming in general, or an experienced scripter/programmer, you will find this book to be most valuable. Not only does the book take one on a guided tutorial, explaining with much clarity the syntax and rules of JavaScript, but also serves as a comprehensive reference for just about every single JavaScript object you can think of. The Document Object Model also gets a lot of coverage, as does cross-browser compatibility and many other related subjects.

If you are going to buy a book on JavaScript, whether it be to learn from scratch, or to use purely as a reference, this is the book you should buy. Don't make the same mistake that I made and think it is too expensive. I spent more money on several cheaper titles before realising that I hadn't really learned much. I've learned more about JavaScript from the first 10 chapters of this book than all the other ones put together. If I had bought this book in the first place, I could have saved a lot of time and money!

3.0 out of 5 stars practical, useful, clearly written, 5 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This book was an eye-opener, it introduced a computer virgin like myself to the world of modern technology. This book is written intelligently, yet the information is not rammed down your throat, I found it an enlightening and interesting read.
