The book covers 157 separate tasks, from switching between programs to administering task schedules. Almost all tasks are covered on a single spread, a handful of more complex subjects occupy two, and none start halfway down a page, meaning the casual dipper is never more than a page-turn from a new tip. There's no need to flick back and forth a few pages to get to a new subject. Each spread is formatted identically, with a basic description on the left, several annotated step-by-step screen shots in the middle, a short technical box on the right and even a suggested Web link for more detail. While there's a risk these Web pages may have moved or be long gone by the time you call, we tried several without any problems.
Targeted at beginners to intermediate users, Teach Yourself Windows 2000 Professional is never patronising, often very useful, and, most importantly of all, a joy to use.--Gordon Laing
