Novell's Guide to Troubleshooting NetWare 5 steps in to show you how to install, configure, maintain and improve Novell NetWare 5. More than a guide to tracking down and repairing problems, this book provides quite a bit of background information on Novell's networking solutions.
You'll want to consult this book if you're looking for specific instructions on how to, say, create disk partitions under NetWare 4.x or step through driver problems on DOS machines. The author inserts lots of notes into his text--and not the throwaway, obvious kinds that characterise many books. These are mainly troubleshooting hints that explain what can go wrong and (usually) how to fix it. The only problem with these notes is that specific ones are hard to locate in a hurry. For certain problems, there are listings of key system files.
Novell's Guide to Troubleshooting NetWare 5 serves its readers well by paying attention to the entire NetWare universe, not just the portion that runs Windows 95. If your enterprise, or part of it, still runs MS-DOS machines or Windows 3.x, you'll find plenty of relevant management and troubleshooting information here. --David Wall
