1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 22 Oct 2005
I thought that this book was awful. Quantity is no substitute for quality, and there is little quality here. There are very few useful snippets of information hidden within over 700 pages of repetitious nonsense. I did not find this at all helpful when I set up my home network.

I strongly recommend that you buy a different book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading title :-(, 12 Mar 2008
By K. W. Farmer "kevanf1" (Cheslyn Hay, Staffordshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have to agree entirely with the first reviewer of this book. It is awful. Do not buy it. I mistakenly purchased the first edition, big mistake. I have now had a chance to look through this, the 2nd edition and it is no better. For starters it should have been called 'The Windows Home Networking Bible'. It claims to cater for Windows, Mac and Linux. Rubbish! IT caters for Windows solely and some of that is back in the dark ages of Win 98. As for coverage of Linux... well, I quote:

"Linux is another matter altogether. Linux has so many different distributions that it is difficult
to discuss in a book like this. If you know Linux and you understand its features, you can easily
add it to a Windows network, however."

If you are the sort of person who is going to buy this book then you probably don't know much about Linux at all. However, regarding networking, most Linux distro's are very similar so a generic run through would be easily possible - but maybe the author doesn't actually know herself? Then the bit about knowing Linux and its features... well I do know something and it is not easy to add it to a Windows network.

My recommendation. Don't buy this book and Amazon should remove it from its lists it's that bad.
