Product Description

Product Description
The Oracle8 Bible is a comprehensive guide to the Oracle8 Enterprise Package. It supplies in–depth coverage of the latest Oracle8 tools as well as various commands and techniques for effectively managing and delivering large amounts of data with Oracle8. Using step–by–step instructions and plenty of samples, author Carol McCullough–Dieter explains important topics such as Object–relational database design, data backup and recovery, auditing, and partitioning. Part introductory tour, part reference guide, the Oracle8 Bible is an essential resource for novice Oracle developers and veteran database administrators alike.

The CD–ROM includes all the samples and SQL code in the book as well as a fully searchable version of Oracle8 Bible.

From the Author
What to expect in Oracle8 Bible from a Co-Author
The Oracle8 Bible is a methodical journey into what Oracle8 is all about - and it does beautifully. The advanced section (which I wrote) hits the core of what you need to know about that subject area. It is only after understanding this core you can start applying the knowledge in a creative fashion.

If you want to understand Oracle8, this is the one book that will assist you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good reference, 12 May 1999
By A Customer
I bought this book because the reviews here said it was well written and useful. I found it to be neither. It does have some information on the OEM tools. Basically, it seems to be more of a dictionary of Oracle terms than a practical guide to using the program.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Overall, 23 April 1999
By A Customer
I bought this book along with the "Black Book" for NT. I have used it repeatedly as a reference for both SQL commands (the back) and different SQL structures (cursors, packages, etc.) I found the Black Book better at explaining how to install, configure, and run Oracle8, but now that it is up, this is my most used reference.

2.0 out of 5 stars No-one mentionned the catch, 13 April 1999
By A Customer
Being new to Oracle and having spent 1.5 days trying to load the CD-ROM we have now discovered that in order to use the CD-ROM (sample tables to work through being the very reason for buying the book!) that you need to PURCHASE the Oracle Objects option, however, I shall persevere and try to plough my way through the book...
