4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but too much Netscape and too little Explorer, 19 Jan 2000
By A Customer
I find this book a very good and easy-to-navigate JavaScript book. However - and the authors don't try to hide this - it is based on Netscape's version of JavaScript and doesn't take Explorer much into consideration. In a world where less than 25% of the users are using Netscape Navigator and more than 75% are using Internet Explorer, calling a book that focuses on Navigator, for Bible is a kind of exaggeration. If you want to make cross platform scripts, this book is very useful. You won't need the Microsoft extensions to the language anyway, and you can skip the Netscape extensions in the book. If however you want to fully support both platforms, this book needs a couple of chapters! (they would add the last "star" to the rating)

1.0 out of 5 stars poor support on CD, 22 Nov 2000
The CD is supposed to come with an indexed version of the book. This is a reason for purchasing in my opinion BUT the pdf files which are on the cd are not indexed and it is a real pain to use. One star.

1.0 out of 5 stars Way over my head and not enough about real life..., 4 Aug 2000
By A Customer
Like several other reviewers before me, I was completely lost by chapter 4 (Methods). I continued to struggle on to chapter 8 which begins with the Netscape 4 Document Object Model and at that point I gave up. This book will *not* teach you JavaScript if you do not already know quite a lot about it. Another problem with it is that all the examples are very artificial - there is nothing in the first 8 chapters which you can actually use in real life or in day-to-day web design...
