1.0 out of 5 stars NOT For Dummies !, 17 Nov 2006
By Bulent Gulcen "turbulent" (Izmir, Turkey) - See all my reviews

Buying a book from the Dummies series, one would expect a book which will start right from the beginning and would go step by step. Wrong ! The author of this book has probably never had a dialog with his fellow students ? He assumes giving one little example on the matter is enough for the beginners. For the rest of building the codes, one should figure it by themselves. Perhaps it was not meant for the beginners but then why call it Dummies?

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not do justice to the topic, 10 Nov 2006
By Mr. K. Jeram (UK) - See all my reviews

Having bought 'Networking' in the dummies series (an excellent, comprehensive book) I was expecting something similar. This book is not in the same class. It is far from comprehensive, is confusing and of very limited value. The structure is illogical and it flits from one unrelated topic to another while largely ignoring what should be its central topic: ADO .Net. Definitely not recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Choose Another, 5 Oct 2007
By Happysam (London) - See all my reviews
The monster that is Visual Basic.Net is complex enough without a raft of careless errors in the book's step by step descriptions. It's clear this is a re-write from an earlier book since the author keeps forgetting which database several examples are linked to (is it Pubs or Northwind, oh it's changed again). The set up proceedures refer to features that don't exist in my versions of Windows Server (I had to remove my copy of Server 2005 and install 2000)! Chapter 4 is based on the use of the Data Form Wizard - a feature that didn't ship with the product, so pull that chapter out. (Probably more Microsoft's fault, but where does that leave the book!) I've lost all my patience by Chapter 4. Visual Studio needs a very good manual. This sucks. Dummies would stand no chance.
