I bought this book because I had no programming experience and wanted a gentle introduction. This book didnt fail to deliver. I found it to be user friendly and delivers the basic concepts very well. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for their first steps in programming.

I have the VB.NET and for dummies books and i must say that they are really good at getting over the information in an easy to understand and light hearted way! I think this is a great book for newbie programmers like me, this book is really cheap compaired to the high street price i saw it at! This (£12) + NetBeans IDE (Free) + Java SDK (Free, also) and your on your way to becomming a fully fleged Java programmer!!!

I bought another Java book before this one ( I won't name which one)and it was like a foreign language to me and though it was supposed to be for beginners it just jumped into the hard parts after one page, one page of introductory material is not enough for a java novice! However with 'Java for dummies' it was great to see that the writer had anticipated that a java beginner is exactly that: a beginner! So it was nice to read the book and slowly work through it without feeling you were thrown into the deep end.
