4.0 out of 5 stars Gets you started, but you will need more, 4 Jul 2000
By A Customer
I'd programmed a bit in C a few years ago but not touched C++ before. When I got BC++B on a magazine coverdisk, I was interested to try out a bit of Windows programming. This book got me to a working simple first project. I had the idea for the project before I got BC++B, and this booked helped me make it real. However, if you really want to get into serious programming, you're going to need a lot more that this - its lacking a bit in the number of actual examples, and there's just not enough explanation for most of the examples there are. That said, if you've not used a visual development tool before, and want to get the feel of programming with BC++B as a newbie, this IS a good starting point.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written, misleading, erroneous statements;defunct CD, 29 Mar 2000
I am amazed that the proof-reader allowed this book to go to the publisher ... The promises of sample code throughout the chapters are often quite wrong, and I was particularly disappointed with the omission of clear instructions how to implement user-written functions, either in GUI or console format. Vokes even states that you can use a short-cut declaration/initialisation statement, which is completely wrong! The CD does not work; 'packages; are missing ... DON'T BUY THIS PARTICULAR C++ BOOK!

2.0 out of 5 stars Dummies is misleading, 10 April 2003

very good for an overall feel for Borland Builder unfortunatley lacks alot of information on more complex areas or basic coding. I am comfortable coding in C++, but found this book of little help in using Borland Builder as few examples of code or descriptions of some of the features.

3.0 out of 5 stars not particularly great
A reasonable intro into C++ builder, but skips over the 'how to' in writing programs. Doesn't tell you how to do things that you want your program to do. Read more
