1.0 out of 5 stars Incompleteness is a sin in my book, 13 Jul 1999
By A Customer
There are always problems when trying to cover the basics of a huge environment in only a few hundred pages. However, this book is hampered as much by lack of complete examples as it is anything else. When you've spent half an hour typing in a program (a CD is provided so you don't have to type anything) and you find that there is no main() function or anything that actually exercises the code you've written that's just frustrating. Seemingly complete programs don't compile and there is just no excuse for that. This is just a poor book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for an Introduction only!, 25 Feb 2000
Being a newbie to C++ (but not to other programming languages) this book provided me with enough info to get up and running. I would have given it a fourth star, if only they moved Part II to Part I. Part I introduces you to using C++ without explaining what the code actually means! You don't find this out until Part II, Page 113 - Which is No Good! But hey, everyone's a critic! I thought the authors explanation of pointers (a particulary difficult subject anyway) to be very good.

1.0 out of 5 stars VC++ Isn't the book, 28 Jun 1999
By A Customer
The book is not good, to complex not explaining enough for beginers, and it is a throw away book for seassoned coders, once your through with it, its worth nothing, find a book you can use later instead.
