Synopsis
The Test of English for International Communication is taken by students for whom English is their second language. It is required by many businesses and institutions in the English-speaking world when those students apply for positions. This new edition of Barron's test prep package has been updated to reflect the most recent TOEIC exams. The illustrated manual presents six full-length model tests and a reading comprehension review. The manual may be purchased alone or with optional compact discs that present a comprehensive listening comprehension review. The CD program has been designed to coincide with listening comprehension material that is presented in the manual. The compact discs can also be purchased separately.

How To Prepare for the TOEIC Test provides a comprehensive, in-depth analysis of the TOEIC test. The book can be used either in a TOEIC course or alone as a self-study class. The course outlined in the book gives teachers a foundation to improve their students general language ability while also providing for the students a streamlined approach to learning what they need to know for the TOEIC text. How To Prepare for the TOEIC Test explores each part of the TOEIC test and analyzes the problems the students are apt to encounter. In the Listening Comprehension section, thirty-one problems and their solutions are identified; in the Reading section, fifty-five problems and their solutions are identified. Each Review chapter is followed by a Mini Test and explanations of test-taking strategies for that section. There are six full-length model tests with both transcripts for the listening sections and explanatory answers. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

You get six full TOEIC practice tests, as well as some mini-tests, and a full coverage of every section of the test. Unlike some other reviewers, I found the explanation section quite good and well-detailed, but most of my students have complained about the ease of the practice tests in comparison to the real TOEIC test -- this does not have to be a big problem. I teach a TOEIC preparation program at Cambridge International College in Melbourne, Australia, and, as a result of my students' feedback, I now use this book during the first and part of the second week into the course to drill my students for harder tests. By the time the students have finished the six practice tests in this book, they are ready to move to harder tests that reflect more the level of difficulty in the real TOEIC test. Some of the answers at the back of the book have errors in them, but no so many that you should be too concerned. Overall, it's a great tool for low-level to intermediate TOEIC students, or advanced students who want to start low and build up from there with other text books. It is a great teacher's tool, but it might be a little difficult for some students if used as a self-teaching book.
