This is a good no nonsense common sense book, the type of book that all keepers of tropical fish should have. It is not the most comprehensive tropical fish book in world but then id doesn't set out to be. What it does do is give all the information a fish keeper needs to keep their fish and the environment they live in, i.e. the tank, happy and healthy. If your fish tank is healthy then it follows that your fish will be too.

It is not rocket science keeping a fish tank healthy, but there are some basic rules that need to be followed and the book explains these clearly. Why the water chemistry of the tank is so important to the fishes well being. Why the build up of bacteria in the filter is beneficial to your fishes health. Why certain fish get along better together than others and the stress that can be caused by putting fish together that are not compatible. As with humans, not all fish get along. If you have a fish in the tank that has a mouth large enough to accommodate one of the other inmates of the tank, the odds are that it will do just that and eat it.

The book explains what needs to be done to keep the tank clean, over-feeding the fish is one of the worst causes of a dirty tank etc. etc. There are a lot of this type of book in the shops, but this one is as good as any of them and certainly puts you on the right lines as far as getting the basics right.
