Product Description

Product Description

When a close friend or family member dies, it can be difficult for children to express their feelings. This book helps boys and girls understand that death is a natural complement to life, and that grief and a sense of loss are normal feelings for them to have following a loved one's death. Titles in this sensitively presented series explore the dynamics of various relationships experienced by children of preschool through early school age. Kids are encouraged to understand personal feelings and social problems as a first step in dealing with them. Written by psychotherapist and counselor Pat Thomas, these books promote positive interaction among children, parents, and teachers. The story lines are simple and directaeasily accessible to younger children. There are full-color illustrations on every page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped my daughter and I discuss the loss of her Daddy, 25 Mar 2008
An excellent little book that helped my then 3yr old understand what had happened. The notion of a 'soul' is touched on but not dwelt on. Mainly the book helped open up lines of communication and allow the discussion of a difficult theme, at a very difficult time. Very useful pre-funeral as it has clear drawings of coffins, pallbearers etc. so I could try to prepare her a little for the day itself as well as it helping to prompt discussion of the day afterwards. The fact that different cultures have various ways of dealing with death is also touched on. Still read several times a week at my daughters request, she seems to find its simple terms a comfort.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Miss You, 31 Oct 2005
I'm doing a degree in child studies in Liverpool, and one of the modules is about helping young children deal with death, loss and grief. This book is a good one in explaining death to children, the fact that the body stops working, but do children really understand the concept of a soul? All in all, good book and will be using it as an example for presentation.

I bought this for my four year old son when his Aunty died. it was recommended on the Winston's Wishes website. It was child friendly and informative and allowed him to discuss how he was feeling. Highly recommended.
