This book is very good for beginners: it is short (300 pages or so), inexpensive, and goes through all the basics of the Java language.

This is a good introduction book for persons without anycomputer programming experience. Professor Downing has done a good job to explain all the major concept of programming using java. This book provides a CD that includes the Java Development Kit 1.2 from Sun Microsystems, sample Java programs and code generator tools. The price of this book is quite inexpensive compared to other Java books. Anyone, who does not know programming, and wishes to experience Java programming should own a copy.
