2.0 out of 5 stars Badly written and disorganised., 14 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This is one of the worst books I have ever read.
Dr Forgey's writing is far from inspiring, and the book is very badly laid out.

It mixes unnecessarily complex medical details with moronic statements and occasional feeble attempts at humour.

Common and complex problems such as HAPE / HACE don't get enough coverage; meanwhile the book is bulked out with a few obscure trail illnesses, along the lines of...

"X is transmitted by infected tick bites. It has these symptooms... ...If you have the symptoms of X, and have been been bitten by ticks, it is likely that you have X.
Cure: Tell your doctor that you may have X; they will prescribe an anti-X drug.
Avoidance: Don't get bitten by infected ticks."

There are way too many proprietary names for drugs and treatments, some of which are specific to the USA, and some are out of date.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good resource., 9 Aug 2005

For those of us who live and play on the rough edge of modern society, books like this are priceless. Most first aid books are limited to.." apply pressure, seek medical help ". This book provides the information that is needed when help is not a telephone call away. The non-perscription drugs, and their many uses, described in this book is worth the purchase price alone.
