But, beneath the calm exterior, the house-cats have another life, one of backbiting, intrigue, cat-fights and territorial disputes. Meredith Parmelee grew up in the San Fernando Valley with a
freeway in her backyard. A fine arts and photography graduate of the Art
Center College of Design in Pasadena, she has been an independent artist
for the last 16 years. Her work is inspired by the juxtaposition of odd
colors and visuals found in everyday life. Common objects become muses as
her interpretation of pop culture celebrates life. Known for her series of
dressed-up dogs and cats, her quirky focus and vibrant color schemes draw
smiles at first review, but behind the simple images, her works show a
sardonic take on life's assumptions--what appears soft and fuzzy is often a
bit twisted upon closer review. Not unlike the backyard adjacent to a
freeway. Working primarily in the advertising and editorial fields,
Meredith has received both a Maggy and Belding award for her work. Her
subjects include animals, muscle men, children and objects all a bit off
center. A bird on a branch, the girl caught mid-jump---her ties between
the subject, the movement and the color-scheme make a unique and dramatic
impression. Meredith appeared on a TV segment with KTLA's Gail Anderson as
a featured contributing artist for the charity organization: PAWS LA and
was the subject of story in Fido Friendly Magazine.
