Developing Person-Centred Counselling, Second Edition is designed to help counsellors improve their skills within the person-centred approach. Written by Dave Mearns, leading person-centred expert and bestselling author, the Second Edition has been fully revised and updated taking account of developments in person-centred practice.

} therapeutic alliance

} development of the counsellor

} therapeutic process

} the person-centred approach in relation to psychopathology.

Supported by case material and examples from practice, each part of the book presents the counsellor with practical, and often challenging ideas, which encourage him/her to think carefully about his/her practice and how to improve it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for person-centred counsellors, 24 Nov 2001
By A Customer
This book is aimed at counsellors who have already undergone some training in the Person-Centred Approach and are familiar with applying PCA concepts to their work. If people have not yet read Person-Centred Counselling in Action by Dave Mearns I would recommend reading it first. The book covers a wide range of general areas in which PCA counsellors may develop, using examples and ideas for application. It also contains specific applications for PCA counsellors including sections I found very interesting on mental health from a PCA perspective and an interesting review matrix using interpersonal perspectives which I have found very effective with some clients.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you know what's going on..., 20 Oct 2007
By Constance Maloy (Nottingham, UK) - See all my reviews
Though this book does provide many comprehensive answers to questions posed in the Person-centred approach, I agree with the previous review in that having some prior knowledge in the Person-Centred Approach is extremely helpful. Though the book is fairly self-explanatory, it does sometimes dip into specialist terms which led me to page-flicking through other books.

However, do not be worried. At the end of each chapter there is a small summary box which heads up all of the previous chapter neatly. Though a little research into PCA is suggested before reading this book, perhaps that's why it is called *Developing* Person-Centred Counselling. *grin*
