Product Description

Written for anyone who wants to learn or brush-up on the basics of statistics but is anxious of their abilities, this book offers a step-by-step introduction to the topic. The book begins with an introduction to the `language' of statistics, and then covers descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Throughout, the author offers readers: a `Difficulty Rating Index' for each chapter's material; Tips for doing and thinking about a statistical technique; top tens for everything from the best ways to create a graph to the most effective techniques for data collection; steps that break techniques down into a clear sequence of procedures; SPSS tips for executing each major statistical technique; and time to practice exercises at the end of each chapter, followed by worked out solutions.

The book concludes with a statistical software sampler and a description of the best Internet sites for statistical information and data resources. Readers also have access to a website for downloading data that they can use to practice additional exercises from the book.

Students and researchers will appreciate the book's unhurried pace and thorough, friendly presentation. (20060308)

5.0 out of 5 stars An easy way to grasp statistics, 15 May 2003
By Karen Shrimpton (Diss, Norfolk United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This book is very easily understood. The language is accessible and the concepts are explained clearly. Each chapter includes sample questions and answers so that you can work through the information at your own rate and digest the concepts in a logical manner. Definitely the SPSS software would be a most useful companion to this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Statistics can be entertaining, 9 Jan 2001
This is a great book for people who did not have anything to do with statistics so far or thought it is boring but would like/have to learn about it. I have never thought statistics could be entertaining but reading this book was really fun and interesting. Neil J. Salkin explains everything very well and uses lots of examples which also helps. Especially if you are doing research of any kind this book is definitely worth getting.
