Oh dear. I fear that the person who wrote this book had not played the game through many times, if at all. In addition to a number of obvious typographical errors, some of the statements contained within are simply untrue. For example, placing a spy into an enemy's settlement does not automatically open the gates if you attack; there is a chance, based on that character's skill rating, that they might be able to but it is by no means certain. I've been playing the game for three days and I know that already, why doesn't the author of this guide know as much?

In a similar vein, the effects of weather merit a line or two, but nowhere does it mention that ballistae function less well in rain, or that camels are less affected by heat. In addition to the comments of the other reviewers, I feel this is a seriously lacking product that should be rewritten or withdrawn so as not to damage the fine reputation of this series of games. Sadly, many of the same criticisms apply to the Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War Prima Guide that was suggested as a bundle.

Stuck on Rome Total War? Then don't bother looking for the guide. The entire content of this so called 'Strategy Guide' is simply the manual with less detail. It contains build trees and unit info but all of this can be found in the game. The solutions for the Historical Battles usually leave your armies massacered and there is not one page in colour exluding the cover. Definately not a good buy and a letdown for one of the best real-time strategy games available to buy.

I bought the Brady Games guide for Medieval:TW and found it a great help. This is not a patch on it. As another reviewer said, it is basically a reprint of the manual with some extra detail in the units and buildings section. Even this section(aguably the largest in the book) is not all it could have been. It does give unit stats, but does not have the invaluable tech trees that the Medieval guide included.

It claims to have a "Fully Detailed Campaign Map!". This is actually a black and white reprint of the map you get with the game. It is also about 1/4 of the size. I can just about make out the names of the provinces. I felt the blurb on the back was, therefore, a bit misleading.

There are better guides online (e.g. Gamepsy has one). So save your money and hope that another one is published - this time by that Brady Games bunch :D
