This book is a fantastic book if you are learning Java from scratch, or even as supplementary reading for a Java course. The language is clear, and the author recognises difficult concepts to emphasise and support with examples. The software shipped with it is also good quality. I would reccomend this book to anyone who has had a bad experience with another Java book, as was in my case.

This is a great book to help you get started with using the Java programing language. It shows you all the steps such as setting up the SDK through to making great fun GUI games. I would reccomend this book to anyone

I'll have to disagree. For an "absolute beginners book", this book is far more complex than it needed to be. The author in my opinion doesnt brake things down or totally explain things enough. Instead he glosses over things(especially towards the middle and end) as if you already have some knowledge of java already. At the end I found myself writing out source code, but not really knowing totally what I was writing!!!
