5.0 out of 5 stars cd was fine, all examples worked !, 26 May 2004
I bought this in Jan 2004 - all the examples on the cd were fine. I found it fabulous, even now as I'm going through making my game I'm still refering back to it - it has just about everything you could want as a beginner - and it really does explain things well. There wasn't a topic I didn't understand.
To be quite honest I can't think of any important topics it didn't cover, I now have 4 months of amateur developemnt of games since finishing the book and have obviously picked up a lot of new tricks but after examining the features of professional game engines they don't seem to have so much more in them than I can already do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent intro to OpenGL but the publisher has vanished?!, 20 Nov 2001
I bought this book because I want to write an interactive OpenGL project. This book is very well written, starting by explaining basic concepts of windows programming, and go on to basic concepts of 3D modelling. It then introduces basic OpenGL and teach you all the way to advanced OpenGL. After that it explained game logic, input/output, music/sound etc.

It covers most aspects of games programming, though it does not cover network programming (which was in another book) and more advanced game AI.

The major drawback of this book is the accompanied CD. There is NO example code contained on the CD (0 byte zips - they must have forgot to put stuff in the zip file), though one can build their own libraries by following the examples on the book and by looking at demos contained on the CD. However it's a nightmare trying to navigate through the CD to find the material I want, as only some demos come with source code.

And one last thing... the publisher seemed vanished without much trace. The website does not exist any more. Tough tough. Nowhere to get help on the example source now...

5.0 out of 5 stars The bad bits aren't so bad!, 17 Jan 2002
I read a review on this book, thinking I'd do some research before forking out this kind of money..It is true that the first batch of books didn't have source code with them (Although everything else was there).

Also, there is a website. It was moved but it does have everything there. I found this by writing to the guy in charge of the CD content. He pointed me in this new website's direction. The website even notes about the problems with CDs so I wrote to the company and they've sent me a new complete CD..Therefore, I believe that it is one of the best computer books I have bought...and money very well spent! BTW: don't expect any glut in this...It's all windows programming (Although the OpenGL source bit will port!)

Hope that helps
