This book is like a very poor collection of lecture notes. It's as if someone has cut and pasted a bunch of teaching material together. There is little structure, examples are weak and poorly explained and the book has many mistakes. The included CD is poorly laid out and there is little explaination of how to get the scripts working on different platforms.

The book never seems to finish explaining something and doesn't go into enough detail for me. I you want to learn PERL and CGI there are many more books out there miles better than this and at this price or less. Avoid.

I wanted to learn an internet language, so I choose CGI 1st, because it was one of the most easiest "advanced" languages out there. I did a 1st impression of the book, and it was very nicely laid out. It clearly shows you what every line of code is, and what is does and used for. This made it easier for myself to advance on the original coding to code something for myself in my situation.

There was a reference at the back, for when you know a lot more CGI, so it isn't just for the people new to the CGI.

The CD contained software and examples of all code in the book, which made it easier, comments were placed in the source code, so it was like a book in itself.

This was a very good book, I would recommend it to anyone starting CGI or has started but needs some help. However not for the very advanced programer.
