Product Description

Product Description

The T-shirt-preferably well-used - is a blank canvas. You can cut it, sew it, twist it, and turn it. You can deconstruct it, you can reconstruct it. Recycle it, resuscitate it, refashion it, and re-invent it. Make it punky, make it funky. It is the perfect jumping-off point, and Megan Nicolay - who knows the my-pride of accomplishment and the pleasure of making something chic and unique (and cheap) shows how to turn an ordinary T-shirt into a halter, a tank top, a peasant blouse, or, for a total transformation, into a T-skirt. Or a hat. Or a Christmas stocking, a drawstring purse, a wine bottle cosy. Even a quilt. In 121 unexpected, easy-to-follow projects, this pied piper of DIY shows first how to tee-off with the basic materials plus add-ons and techniques. More than half the projects require no sewing, and all are rated according to the level of difficulty.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not all it seems to be, 27 April 2007
I'd had this book on my wishlist for months, until I actually saw it in person in my local Waterstone's. It came off my wishlist soon after.

It's written for a very young audience, early-mid teens maybe, with huge print, and lots of needless illustrations. It reads like a teen magazine and not like a 'grown up' craft book. Also, the vast majority of the reconstruction suggestions are horrible and unwearable, ripped in places and safety-pinned together.

If you really want to make your t-shirts into wearable clothes, buy a sewing book and learn the basics first, then experiment with your t-shirts on your own. You'd learn a lot more that way than by buying this book.

However, if you know a 14 year old girl who wants to get into crafting, this may be a good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars useful for oversized tee's, 17 Jun 2007
By crochetgrrrl (London, UK) - See all my reviews
A great book on T-shirt reconstruction with tons of ideas. The instructions are easy to follow and most include suggestions for variations. The pieces vary from super-easy, no-sew to a wedding dress made from shirts. On top of the large number of suggestions this book will inspire you to design your own. Although be warned: quite a few of the pieces are more suited to teens rather than thirty-somethings such as myself. Still it has given a number of oversized t-shirts in my collection a new lease in life.
