4.0 out of 5 stars Breastfeeding Explained, 24 Feb 2004
I stumbled across this book in the library and just took it out as a reference guide. I was already successfully breastfeeding my daughter at the time, but this book made me more aware of the positive aspects of breastfeeding. It had some really good chapters including returning to work and breastfeeding, the topic of sex and the nursing mother, feeling good in yourself and a whole chapter on the father and his feelings, how he can help if his partner is breastfeeding but written from a male perspective. This book really helped my friends and mself answering questions like "If I am ill will breastfeeding make my child ill" and "What medications are safe to use. Although the book is written by American authors 95% of the book applies here in the UK, obviously some of the legal info is slightly different but it also shows that America is ahead of us in promoting breastfeeding and making it more acceptable but gives ideas on what we can do to change this. This is the best book I have read on breastfeeding as it is completly impartial, and it also talks about the whole family - mother, baby, father and other siblings , life in general - going out, working, stopping breastfeeding and why some people choose not to breastfeed. Once I started reading I could not put it down and found myslef quoting parts of the book to family and friends
