Review

To many of us think we know it all about driving once we've passed our test. A few pages of this well written and presented book should put you right. Although much of it is common sense, there are enough bad drivers around to make you realise that's not the case for everyone. All motorists will learn something here. It could well be the difference between having a crash and avoiding one. --Auto Express

This book is the definative guide to becoming a better driver. It can be used for personal study, or in conjunction with the Institute of Advanced Motorists Skills for life Advanced Driving challenge. With interesting facts about driving aborad and a light-heatred overview of typical motorists on Britain's raods, for example 'the school run mum', it delivers all teh information you need to become an advanced driver in a logical and acessible way. Independant research recently carried out by by Brunel University concluded that nearly 70 percent of drivers who recieved advanced caoching skills showed significatly better skills than normal drivers in a number of key areas, form speed managment and cornering to hazard awarness and anticipation. On average, advanced drivers save money on their car insurance, while the 'mechanicl sympathy' they develop during their training imporoves their attitude behind the wheel and cuts their vehicle's running and maintenance costs. More that 400,000 people have taken the IAM challange, and more tahn 1,000 British orgonisations have recognised the value of advanced driving, encouraging their staff to get involved. Whether you are arelativly new driver or have many years experience, you will find value and heaps of advice, tips and techniques in this 155-page book and the iAM's Skills for life challange - together they will take your driving to a new level. --York Evening Press

Highly recommended reading. All motorists will learn something here - it could be the difference between having a crash and avoiding one --Volkswagen Driver

Clear guidance on how to improve your driving. --Motoring and Leisure

A wealth of good advice on driving techniques...a worthwhile investment for any driver... --Audi Driver

Independent research recently carried out by Brunel university concluded that nearly 70% of drivers who received advanced coaching showed significantly better skills over 'normal' drivers. Key areas included speed managment and cornering, hazard awareness, and anticipacipation. Nigel Mansell has written the forward for this book from the IAM on how to be a better driver. It's fully illustrated in colour, with clear guidance on how to improve your driving. --Motoring & Leisure

The IAM is synonumous with the concept of advanced driving, and this is the book that explains it all on paper. After an explenation of what the practicle assesment involves, the remainder of the book has been written as a study guide, to supplement the expert advice given by the institue of Advanced Motorists (IAM) representatives, in preperation for that 'Advanced Driving Challenge' assesmnet and the on-going role of the responsible driver. Covering eveything from driving position and changing gears to driving economically and dealing with road works and breakdowns, the book provides useful, sound advice in a straightforward manner...The photographs and diagrams help to illustrate the points well, and the design makes it easy on the eye...the contents list, alongside clear headings and sub headings, makes finding the information you want simple. The most important aspects of Advanced Driving are summarised at the end of the key topics under the headings 'Advanced Checklist' - what you should be achieving, and 'Examiner Checklist' - what the examiner is looking for you to achieve...So you have a series of goals for practise and then a self-check list to assess your progress. This would be particularly useful if you partnered up with another driver keen to enhance their driving skills. If you are thinking about taking up the challenge of advanced driving, this is the ideal guide. It takes the mystery out of advanced driving in an informative and direct style, whilst keeping its wheels on the ground, so to speak. Whether it's the IAM or another advanced test you are considering, or if you just want to develope your attitude and skills, or even chcek your standards aren't slipping, the advice here is relevant, applicable, and a worthwhile investment for any driver. --Adi News
