The reader from Caracas appeared to have the wrong book. This is the BEST book for complete beginners to Visual Basic programming!! It is good value - large format & 800 pages. It actually includes a copy of Visual Basic on CD so that you don't need to buy the software. [Control Creation Edition]

The style will annoy some clever people (and people who succeed at programming tend to be clever) because it it TOO step-by-step. The end of chapter exercises get a little repetitive [but you can just do a few of them - the latter more advanced ones right at the end of the chapter].

Diane now has a new edition out for VB6 [and the same publisher has produced a beginning Object Orientated programming for VB6 as well] If you're crossing over to VB from another language this will be too BASIC but if you're a student who's learning VB and programming at the same time then this book is perfect.

I took Visual Basic at our local community college and thankfully had this book to help me understand the basics of VB. The teacher, which was actually a very nice person, couldn't seem to get the students to understand the complexity of VB. If it wasn't for this book, I would have given up!
