In The Carlyles series, we've been introduced to Owen, Avery and Baby -- three young socialites causing quite a stir in New York's Upper East Side. They're driven, popular and self-involved, all of which are traits they no doubt picked up from their predecessors.

Take a Chance on Me picks up where You Just Can't Get Enough left off, and mostly focuses on Avery's internship, Baby's therapy, and Owen's hoes over bros dilemma. Though the characters are exaggerated and act a lot older than their sixteen years, all these are realistic teenage problems and experiences. The connection to the new characters isn't quite as strong as with the original Gossip Girl series, though my attachment is growing with each book. Their bad judgements and wrong choices ultimately make them more personable and easier to identify with, which always helps when faced with protagonists at the very top of the social ladder.

Although this series isn't my favourite of Ziegesar's creations, I still love it, and get a huge sense of excitement whenever a new installment arrives on my doorstep. They're fantastic, entertaining reads, and almost feature more backstabbing and bitchiness than an episode of the TV show.
