1.0 out of 5 stars Money for old rope, 24 Oct 2007
By M. Evans "mariaevans2" (uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
What an awful disappointment and a let down to her fans! I have read all of Martina's previous books and had been looking forward to reading this book for weeks. From the second chapter on I started to get more and more frustrated with the repetition, meaningless dialogue and feeble 'plot'. Every third or fourth sentence was a repeat of a previous one (with only the wording being rearranged) and made Martina appear as if she just couldn't be bothered with trying to come up with something different. The lack of substance to the book was insulting to the reader - it just seems to be money for old rope to me. Nothing like earlier books such as Ladykiller, Broken and Dangerous Lady which gripped the reader and made you feel you actually cared for the characters in the book. Pull your socks up Martina with Authors like Mark Billingham, Mo Hayder and the like you'll have to do better than this!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Hugely disappointing, 19 Oct 2007
By Mrs. E. Hanrahan (uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was eager to read this book having read everything Martina Cole has previously written and been unable to put down from opening at page 1. Faces is the most non-story I think I have ever read. It was repetitious to the point of being annoying and I only kept reading because I was hoping I could find a story which would explain the 500 odd pages of descriptive, repetitive text. What a huge disappointment this book was.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, 14 Nov 2007
By Mrs. D. Tyrer "Denise" (Lancashire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As everyone, I am a huge Martina Cole fan and eagerly await each publication. I was so disappointed. I read the book over many days (which is unusal as I usually start and don't stop until I'm finished) and I was desperate to get to the end. I was so bored but continued with it waiting for the bolt of suprise and shock......but there wasn't one.

I think Martina has played out all scenarios from modern day underworld. I would like to see her go back in time - Goodnight Lady style.

I feel Faces was written very slap dash and repetative and I feel Martina didn't really get going with it. The publishers were wrong to go to print with this. It's not your right to have a book printed on the back of a reputation as a brilliant author. Each book must be merited on it's content.
