Product Description

Product Description

The boundaries of parental love and filial devotion are explored to their breaking point in this unique and breathtaking thriller.

Once a year, the Queen, the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the judges, the bishops, leaders spiritual and temporal, assemble in the House of Lords for the State Opening of Parliament. On this day, the Lords' Day, the gathering is still more impressive, for sitting beside his mother is the heir to the throne and up in the galleries are the sons of both the US President and the British Prime Minister. But they are all about to be taken hostage. The siege will lead some to selfless sacrifice, others to lose the respect of those they love most dearly...

About the Author

Michael Dobbs was born in the same hour as Prince Charles. It doesn't seem to have done him too much harm. In the years since then he has become a doctor of philosophy, a senior adviser to both Margaret Thatcher and John Major, a Deputy Chairman of Saatchi & Saatchi, a regular presenter of BBC TV's Despatch Box and a columnist for the Mail on Sunday. He has written books ranging from the bestselling House of Cards trilogy that became a hugely popular TV series to his recent brilliant series of historical novels about the life of Winston Churchill. He tries to live quietly with his wife and four sons in Wiltshire.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Yet from Michael Dobbs, 9 Dec 2007
By Peter Stiles (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Lords' Day (Hardcover)
I have read a number of books by this author and I found this to be the best so far. The portrayal of the various characters from the publicity hungry politicians seeking to shift blame onto someone else to the selfdoubting Prince of Wales reinforces the opinions probably held by most people. The storyline left me thinking, surely this could never happen, but.........

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking good story, 6 Feb 2008

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: The Lords' Day (Hardcover)
This is an un-put-downable book. It kept me reading late into the night! Michael Dobbs succeeds in keeping the tension throughout as to the outcome of the siege in the House of Lords. It's like a cross between a Frederick Forsyth thriller and a political satire. Some of the time you're holding your breath as to what will happen next and the next laughing at the wittiness of the writing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable quick read, 12 Sep 2008
If you're looking for an intriguing plot, nothing too demanding, but a story that cracks along at a good pace, then this is well worth a read.
